How to get my EPP (auth) code or transfer my domain away from Webway
You own your domain and can move it to any registrar at any time.
Before you start
- Renew first if the domain expires soon. A domain that expires mid-transfer can be lost.
- Check the contact email on the domain. Approval emails go there. Update it under Domains → My Domains → Contact Information if needed.
- Don't cancel your Webway hosting until the transfer completes if the domain uses Webway's nameservers. Otherwise the website and email go down with it.
- Nothing happens to your website or email during a transfer as long as the nameservers stay the same.
.co.za domains: no code needed
.co.za transfers are approved by the registrant, not with a code.
- Order the transfer at your new registrar. They submit a request to ZACR, the .co.za registry.
- An email goes to the email address of the person who registered the domain (the registrant), asking them to approve the transfer.
- Click approve transfer in that email. The domain leaves Webway once the registry processes the request.
Webway doesn't block or delay outgoing .co.za transfers. If the approval email doesn't arrive, check the registrant email on the domain in the client area and fix it before asking the new registrar to try again.
.com, .net, .org and other international domains: get the EPP code
- Log in to the client area at portal.webway.host.
- Go to Domains → My Domains.
- Click Manage next to the domain.
- Open Registrar Lock and turn the lock off.
- Open Get EPP Code. The code is shown on screen or emailed to the domain's registrant address.
- Copy the code exactly. It's case-sensitive and may contain symbols.
- Give the code to your new registrar when you order the transfer there.
- Watch for any approval email from the new registrar and approve it.
The transfer completes within 5 to 7 days. If you want it to go through sooner, open a ticket and ask us to approve it from our side.
Why the code is refused or the transfer fails
| Reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Domain is still locked | Turn the lock off in the client area and try again |
| The code expired | Generate a new one |
| Within 60 days of registration, transfer in, or a registrant change | Wait. ICANN blocks transfers in this window |
| Unpaid invoice on the domain | Pay the invoice first |
After the transfer
- The domain disappears from My Domains in the client area.
- Cancel any renewal invoice for it that's still outstanding.
- If you're also leaving Webway hosting, move the website and email first, then update DNS at the new registrar, then cancel hosting.
Still stuck?
Open a support ticket and include:
- The domain name.
- The registrar you're moving to.
- Whether you've turned off Registrar Lock.
- Whether you've requested the EPP code, and when.
- Any error message from the new registrar, copied exactly.
