What happens when my reseller account reaches its limits?
Reseller limits and client limits are different
Your reseller account has an overall allocation: total disk space, monthly bandwidth, and the number of client accounts and domains. Each client account also has limits from its package.
A client can stay within its package while your reseller account approaches its overall limit.
What happens at the disk limit?
When actual disk usage reaches your allocation, file uploads, email delivery and backups can fail, applications may be unable to write sessions or caches, updates may stop part-way, and you may be unable to create new accounts.
Common causes are old backups, full mailboxes, logs, caches and abandoned staging sites. Don't remove client files without their permission.
What happens at the bandwidth limit?
When bandwidth runs out, affected websites may be restricted until the monthly period resets, the limit is raised, or the plan is upgraded. Check for large downloads, media files, bots, hotlinking and unexpected traffic first.
What happens at an account cap?
If your plan limits the number of client accounts, creating a new account fails once you reach it. Suspended accounts still count. Delete an account only after confirming the client's data has been backed up and the service should end.
What does overselling mean?
Where it's allowed, overselling lets the combined limits of your packages add up to more than your plan's capacity, because most clients don't use their full quota. It doesn't create extra space or bandwidth: actual combined usage must still stay within your real allocation. Monitor growth closely.
Check usage
- WHM: open List Accounts and compare client disk and bandwidth. See How to check a client's disk, bandwidth and resource usage in WHM.
- DirectAdmin: open Account Manager → List Users. See How to check a client's disk, bandwidth and resource usage in DirectAdmin.
Reduce usage safely
- Remove old backups after downloading them.
- Ask clients to clear unneeded email.
- Remove abandoned staging sites.
- Rotate oversized logs.
- Move large downloadable files elsewhere.
- Adjust packages to match what clients actually need.
Upgrade the reseller plan
If normal usage is approaching your plan's capacity, upgrade before services are affected:
- Sign in at
portal.webway.host. - Open Services › My Services and select the reseller service.
- Under Actions, choose Upgrade/Downgrade.
Open a support ticket if the option you need isn't shown.
Still stuck?
Open a support ticket and include:
- Your reseller username
- Whether you use WHM or DirectAdmin
- The limit you've reached
- Current disk and bandwidth usage
- The number of client accounts
- Any error message
- Whether websites or email are already affected
