Point my domain to Webway (change nameservers)

Before you change your nameservers

Webway's nameservers are:

  • dns1.webway.host
  • dns2.webway.host

Changing nameservers tells the internet where to find all DNS records for your domain. This can affect:

  • Your website
  • Email delivery
  • Subdomains
  • Domain verification records
  • Services such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace

Changing nameservers does not transfer your website files, databases or email messages.

If your current website or email is hosted elsewhere, make sure the required DNS records exist on your Webway hosting account before making the change.

If your domain is registered with Webway

  1. Sign in at portal.webway.host.
  2. Go to Domains → My Domains.
  3. Click the domain you want to point to Webway.
  4. Open Nameservers.
  5. Replace the existing nameservers with:
    • dns1.webway.host
    • dns2.webway.host
  6. Save your changes.

If your domain is registered elsewhere

  1. Sign in to the company where the domain is registered.
  2. Find the domain's Nameservers, DNS servers or Custom nameservers setting.
  3. Remove the existing nameservers.
  4. Enter:
    • dns1.webway.host
    • dns2.webway.host
  5. Save your changes.

Contact your domain registrar if you cannot find this setting. Webway cannot change nameservers held at another registrar.

What happens to my existing website?

Different visitors may use the old and new DNS information while the change propagates.

  • If the website is already on your Webway account, it should begin loading from Webway as the change takes effect.
  • If the website is hosted elsewhere, it may stop working after the domain switches to Webway's DNS.
  • Changing nameservers does not copy a website to Webway.

Keep the previous hosting service active until the website works through Webway from different networks.

What happens to my email?

Changing nameservers also changes which DNS system controls email delivery.

Webway-hosted email uses:

mail.yourdomain.co.za

Replace yourdomain.co.za with your own domain.

If your email is hosted by Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another provider, its MX and TXT records must be added to the new DNS zone. This may include SPF, DKIM and verification records.

Do not cancel your previous email service until you have tested sending and receiving through the new setup.

After changing the nameservers

  1. Allow time for DNS propagation. See How long does DNS propagation take?
  2. Check that both your domain and www load the correct website.
  3. Send a test email to your domain.
  4. Reply to that message to test outgoing email.
  5. Keep the old website and email services active for at least 48 hours where possible.

Still stuck?

Open a support ticket and include:

  • Your domain name
  • Where the domain is registered
  • The nameservers currently shown at the registrar
  • Where your website should be hosted
  • Where your email should be hosted
  • The date and approximate time you changed the nameservers
  • A screenshot of any error
