How to move client accounts to my Webway reseller account
Webway moves them for free
Webway migrates client accounts from another provider to your reseller account at no charge. Everything is backed up first, and the move is scheduled at hours that avoid downtime.
Open a ticket before changing DNS or cancelling the old service.
Before requesting the migration
Prepare a list with:
- Client domains
- The old provider's control panel (cPanel, DirectAdmin or other)
- Current hosting usernames
- Approximate disk usage
- Mailboxes
- PHP versions and cron jobs
- External DNS or email services
- Accounts that must move first, and any times to avoid
Tell us if a website takes orders, bookings or other frequently changing data.
Open a migration ticket
Use Support › Open Ticket at portal.webway.host, or email support@webway.host. Webway responds within 30 minutes.
Include your reseller service, the old provider, the number of accounts, the approximate total data size, and your preferred migration period. Don't send hosting passwords by ordinary email; follow the secure method given in the ticket.
cPanel accounts
For cPanel-to-cPanel moves, a full cPanel account backup brings across website files, databases, email accounts and messages, forwarders, DNS zones, cron jobs and account settings. Don't delete the source account after the backup is made.
DirectAdmin accounts
DirectAdmin's backup and restore format brings across domain files, databases, email accounts and messages, DNS records, FTP accounts and account settings. Keep the source until Webway confirms the restored account has been checked.
Moving between different panels
A cPanel-to-DirectAdmin move, or the reverse, needs some manual work. Panel-specific filters, custom PHP settings, application paths, cron commands containing old paths, and some mailbox or spam settings may need recreating. Webway will tell you what needs attention.
Map the packages
Tell us which package each client should use, and create any packages you need first:
- How to create a hosting package and client account in WHM
- How to create a package and client account as a DirectAdmin reseller
Make sure your reseller account has enough disk, bandwidth and account capacity for all migrated clients.
Check each migrated account
Before changing DNS, check each account's website pages, admin area, forms, uploads, mailboxes and forwarders.
Change DNS
Once Webway confirms an account is ready:
- Change the domain's nameservers or DNS records.
- Allow time for DNS propagation.
- Test the website from different networks.
- Test incoming and outgoing email.
- Keep the old hosting active during propagation.
Don't cancel the old provider until the migration is complete and you've checked the accounts. For a single site, see How to move my website and email to Webway from another host.
