How to check a client's disk, bandwidth and resource usage in WHM
Understand the different limits
| Resource | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Disk space | Website files, email, logs, backups and other account data |
| Bandwidth | Data transferred during the monthly usage period |
| Memory | Memory used by the client's processes |
| Entry processes | Simultaneous requests entering web applications |
| Processes | Total processes running under the account |
The default per-account limits are 2 GB memory, 30 entry processes and 90 processes. Disk and bandwidth limits come from the package you assigned.
Check disk and bandwidth in WHM
- Sign in to WHM on port
2087. - Open Account Information → List Accounts.
- Find the client's domain or username.
- Review its disk usage and package.
- Open the bandwidth view for more detailed transfer information.
Check resource usage
Resource details are available from the client's cPanel account.
- Open List Accounts in WHM.
- Find the client.
- Use the cPanel login action.
- Open Resource Usage.
- Review current usage, faults and history.
- Sign out when finished.
Look for repeated limit faults rather than one brief spike.
Interpret repeated faults
| Limit reached | Common causes |
|---|---|
| Memory | Heavy plugins, large imports, image processing or inefficient code |
| Entry processes | Slow requests or many simultaneous visitors |
| Processes | Excessive scripts, cron jobs or application processes |
| Disk space | Backups, email, logs, caches or duplicate websites |
| Bandwidth | Large downloads, media files, bots or high traffic |
A 508 website error usually means a resource limit was reached. See What do 500, 403, 404 and 508 errors mean on my website?
Check the client's package
If the package is too small, you can move the client to another package, increase a package limit, ask the client to reduce usage, or upgrade your own reseller plan.
Changing a shared package affects every account on it. Create a separate package if only one client needs different limits.
Keep reseller and client usage separate
A client can stay within its own quota while your reseller account approaches its overall allocation. Check both, and don't promise more storage or bandwidth until you know your reseller plan can provide it. See What happens when my reseller account reaches its limits?
